रागस्वरूप आणि विस्तार – Raga and Elaboration – Workshop

North Indian classical music allows each of its practitioners to find his own unique expression while staying within the confines of raga and tala. This is the real nature and the ultimate goal of this music. It allows each singer to build improvisationally upon a raga or a bandish in accordance with his personal sensitivities.

Various gharanas and musicians have enriched our music over the years by aspiring towards this very goal through their creativity and their compositions. For an aspiring artist to develop this ability, it is imperative that he be exposed to these compositions and these gharanas. Only thus can his talent and ingenuity be nurtured, his creative potential be nourished and his introspection be given a meaningful direction. Only thus can he become a unique artist.

In view of this, Pt. Satyasheel Deshpande will demonstrate the elaboration, improvisation and appreciation of choice bandishes from his archives. Archival recordings will also be played where necessary.

This workshop is for aspiring musicians and students of music. There is an attendance fee of Rs. 300. Those interested can get in touch with the organizers, Prof. Keshav Paranjape at 9820499151 / kdparanjape@gmail.com
